NIDI

The QPATHS project is based at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in The Hague, a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) affiliated with the University of Groningen (RUG). QPATHS is an ERC-funded research project examining family formation among sexual minorities, with a particular focus on pathways to parenthood and the factors that facilitate or constrain people in realizing their family plans. The project combines comparative population data from five European countries with longitudinal survey data from the Netherlands to study how family intentions, experiences, and outcomes develop over time.

The project is led by Dr. Maaike van der Vleuten and includes Prof. Dr. Matthijs Kalmijn, senior researcher at NIDI and honorary professor of Family and Life Course Demography at the University of Groningen, postdoctoral researcher Yuxuan Jin, and PhD candidates Alex Mascarino and Helen Beutler.
